Boating Safety Classes

Given by the Smith Mountian Lake Sail and Power Squadron
Classes start 9 AM and lasts until approximately 5 PM with an hour for lunch.
  • April 26 - Moneta Volunteer Fire Department, Old 122 North, Moneta
  • May 10 - Smith Mountian Lake Church of the Brethren, Burnt Chimney Road, Wertz
  • June 14 - Trinity Ecumenical Parish, Route 122, east of Westlake Corner
  • To be Anounced - Leesville Lake Area

Section 29.1-748 of the Code of Virginia states that
it is unlawful for any person to operate watercraft in excess of the slowest possible speed required to maintain steerage and headway within fifty feet of docks, piers, boathouses, boat ramps, people in the water, and vessels other than personal watercraft. This law is enforced by the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries and is punishable as a Class 4 misdemeanor.
