Fellow Residents and Friends of Leesville Lake:
Since it’s formation in August of 2003, your new Leesville Lake Association has been very busy. We’ve:
- Held monthly meetings
- Elected officers and a Board of Directors with wide representation and interests around the lake
- Received and discussed input from residents and users of the lake regarding concerns and where efforts should be concentrated and how prioritized
- Met with our local representative to the state House of Representatives, Kathy Byron who is very interested in helping us with debris and safety issues
- Met with AEP regarding lake cleanliness, use of the skimmer, and clarification of AEP and resident responsibilities
- Formed a committee to look at the Shoreline Management Plan and garnered input that was forwarded to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission before AEP’s final license approval
- Formed a website to keep interested parties informed of activities of the Association, posted minutes of each meeting and included general information about the lake and current news items which might affect our lake
- Begun the process to make our Association a legal entity in the form of a non-stock corporation
- Been invited and assigned members to attend committee meetings at Smith Mountain Lake regarding issues that impact both lakes
- Approached the counties around the lake about forming a Lake Commission with county supervisor representatives which would be the vehicle for the counties to cooperate and provide a focused effort on the lake as a whole. The county supervisors were aware we needed the commission and formation is in progress.
Based on resident and user input there are many topics, concerns and issues you’d like to see addressed. In the future we want to:
- Have more impact with AEP, state and county governments
- Begin to address the debris in the lake and how to clean it up
- Form committees and agencies to look at environmental and biological concerns (erosion, water quality)
- Take an active part in future development of the lake so that it’s done in a manner that will preserve the lake’s beauty and natural resources
- Work to make sure recreation (fishing, water sports) on our lake are healthy and safe
- Be able to stay in touch with each other so that we can talk about our lake when issues or concerns arise
We have big objectives to accomplish. We need your support and input. We ask that you consider joining the Leesville Lake Association for $25 per year. Checks can be made payable to Leesville Lake Association and forwarded to our Treasurer in the enclosed envelope Remember that at any time you may see what your Association is doing by checking our website at www.leesvillelake.org . If you have any questions please call our Secretary, Julia Moore, at (434) 369-6630.
Sincerely,
Stanley I. Goldsmith
